O rchard house has a very peaceful south facing garden, which is of good size and on a level to enable easy access to all areas of the garden. There is a large lawn area bordered by attractive flowerbeds and trees. There’s also a large patio area where during warmer weather there are plenty of tables and chairs and umbrellas to enable our clients to enjoy our garden at its best. The garden is completely secure so all our residents including those who may be forgetful or wander can use the garden. Our conservatory or sun lounge enables clients to enjoy the garden all year. Its bright and airy atmosphere can be enjoyed at any time as it is fully heated and furnished.

W hen entering Orchard House you will be welcomed into a beautiful hallway with large staircase. This hallway is also used as a seating area for clients if they wish. The staircase is fitted with a modern, easy to use, stair lift, which is serviced twice a year by Stannah.

O rchard House has a large lounge area, which leads into our sun lounge. The room is furnished to a high standard with plenty of seating in a variety of chairs to fit all requirements. The room contains a large screen television and music system as well as the homes library, which contains books to suit all tastes and also large print books. There are also magazines available and newspapers can be ordered for clients at no extra charge.

T The dining room is a large area looking out onto the garden. Residents eat in the dining room at lunch and teatime, unless they prefer to eat in their own rooms. There are several tables in the dining room enabling clients to sit with whom they wish. All food is traditional in style and freshly prepared by our own catering staff, all special diets are catered for.

N ext to the dining room is another sitting area for residents to enjoy. This area looks out on the garden and is of particular interest to nature lovers with a large variety of birds (and a few squirrels) visiting our bird table.

A  ll 26 of our bedrooms at Orchard House are furnished and decorated to a very high standard. All rooms are well proportioned. Most rooms have en-suite facilities and all are single rooms. Single rooms, and rooms with en-suite are furnished with a minimum of a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinet and table. Rooms are also fitted with a television and many have telephone points. All bedrooms are also fitted with a lockable facility. Each room has thermostatically controlled heating that can be adjusted to suit the client, and seating. The en-suite bathrooms contain bath, or shower, or both. Including a toilet and washbasin.

S ingle rooms have washing facilities in the room. For residents without toilet facilities in their rooms, commodes are available for use at night.

C lients may bring with them to Orchard House pieces of their own furniture and pictures along with any other items to make their room feel as homely as possible. All bed linen, towels and face cloths are provided and laundered.

C ommunal bathrooms, and toilets are clearly marked and are situated along the main passageways upstairs and on the ground floor. Orchard House has specialised bathrooms, one fitted with a Parker bath and one with a Solo bath. These baths are suitable for bathing clients who are frail or have mental or physical disabilities or any client that has difficulty getting in or out of a bath or for those that need to feel more secure when bathing. These baths are serviced 2x each year by Argo. Orchard House also has 2 specialised shower rooms.

T oilets all have rails and some have raised seats to try and meet the needs of our clients.

A  ll our corridors have handrails, and all our doors and corridors are wide enough for a wheelchair, there is also a wheelchair ramp for easy access in and out of the building to the car park. Access to the garden is on the same level.

O  rchard House has coded exits to the front of the building and to all its main fire exits this is to prevent our vulnerable clients from leaving the premises unnoticed.. All these exits automatically release on the activation of the fire alarm and are serviced regularly and tested weekly. However the rear gardens because of their secure and level nature are accessible without coded exits for all to enjoy at any time.

O  rchard House employs domestic staff to ensure that all rooms are cleaned each day and that bathrooms and toilet areas are cleaned at least once each day. This ensures that all clients with mental or physical problems enjoy a pleasant, clean and tidy environment every day.

T he home is maintained by a part time gardener/handyman and the company employs a full time decorator/joiner. All electrical maintenance is carried out by a qualified electrician. All plumbing by a qualified plumber. Orchard House has 3 separate boilers providing water and heating to the building, these are serviced yearly. There is also a 3 phase electrical wing system in the building. All bedrooms have windows of which at least 1 will open, although those on the first floor may be restricted to how far they open to ensure the safety of our clients. The home is fitted with an up to date fire system provided by ADT systems. The system is also serviced and monitored by Chubb.

T he fire service are automatically alerted in the event of the system being activated.

T he system is tested each week to check that its operating correctly and fire drills are carried out 4 times per year. All staff receive fire instruction.

E mergency lighting is checked each month and given a 3-hour test every 6 months.
